conversations with a duck (or two)

we got a mouse in the duck pen
lilli didn't catch it, instead she looked up me and cried for me to pick her sorry feathered butt up.
so we switched ducks
phoebe is in there
the conversation went something like this:

'mom, i don't wanna be in the chicken pen, it's nasty'

phoebe YOU'RE the one that tossed the chickens out two weeks ago
(maybe three)

'BUT MOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM' (duck whining)

but phoebe, you fought with lilli so you two are now separated (sibling rivalry)

'but mom, i'm lonely and all i got is them nasty old chickens...and a mouse'

phoebe you're in here to EAT THE MOUSE......you love mouse, so eat the mouse and we'll take you out during the day, even though you hate the snow

'grumble mumble grumble' (phoebe having a smart ass remark under her breath)

oye......... you folks haven't lived until you've lived with ducks

now the other thing i was trying to remember to post about is lack of energy......
i got started with a lot of plans, and somehow ran out of steam!
you folks know me, have i been slowing down?
i can't seem to get much done lately and it's really starting to piss me off
and the hell of it is, some stuff is really easy!
most days i feel like i am drifting through
anyone feel like that?

what do you all do about it?

I have messed up about five mittens recently, so there are worse things than just sort of floating through. There's also the crashing around doing everything wrong style of problem.

Aside from that, your ducks eat mice? Really?

  2. yup the ducks eat mice and other small rodents, moles, voles... they eat frogs and small snakes too along with slugs, worms etc.
    they LOVE spiders.
the chicken eat 'pinkies' and ticks along with worms
that's why all the work it worth it...oh and the eggs for us, and manure for the garden
muscovy ducks that are clipped and trained make the perfect urban pet i think

  3. I make a list of what needs to be done, not the big things but the components of them. Not clean the fridge but shelf 1, shelf 2, etc. Do one thing at a time and check it off. Instead of being intimidated by the big job (and not doing it), I can at least do one shelf. After a couple of days, the big job is getting done. Well, almost. I have one more shelf and then the door shelves to go. DH did the freezer before going shopping over the weekend while it was pretty empty.

  4. Could part of the problem be that it is winter? It is cold, and gloomy, and it is dark longer. Who wants to do anything? I find as I get older, it takes me longer to do less, and I have less energy for it, too. A friend of mine has a "happy light" for her husband who suffers from depression (one of those natural spectrum lights for people with SAD). I sometimes wonder if something like that would help with the lack of energy thing. I just haven't ever gotten around to looking for one (lack of energy, hahaha).
